Asm. Herb Conaway discusses top health issues in New Jersey in 2021 with Steve Adubato
Steve Adubato talks with Asm. Herb Conaway, MD (D) – NJ, 7th Legislative District, and Chairman of the Assembly Health Committee, to address the biggest challenges for 2021 as Chairman of the Assembly Health Committee; disparities in the health outcomes of minorities; COVID vaccine resistance in the African American community; and the impact of new federal rules on organ procurement organizations.
Asm. Herb Conaway says COVID-19 has exacerbated racial health disparities that already existed, “When you look at the statistics who got sick, who died from Covid, who get vaccinated for Covid, you see there has disparities … because of the glaring light that the pandemic has brought to these issues and has rightly prompted government and health officials, public health officials, to pay more attention to the issues and take action to address it. “
He says it is the right of every citizen not to be vaccinated, “But it is also the responsibility of governments to take action in response to your refusal to vaccinate. We do this in the vaccination program for school-aged children. You have the right not to immunize your child, but government and society also have the right and the responsibility to say that your children should be excluded from school. Conaway says that same idea applies to employers requiring their employees to be vaccinated.
