Library to host virtual stories at bedtime – L’Avocat-Messager
To celebrate this holiday season, the library is running virtual holiday bedtime stories from Saturday, December 19 through Thursday, December 24.
Children and their families are invited to join Santa Claus and his assistants in the library’s youth services department to read some of their favorite holiday stories each evening at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, December 19 at 7 p.m., Santa will kick off the week-long series with one of his favorite stories. Children’s Librarian Libby McWhorter will read on Sunday evening, followed by Youth Services Assistant Amber Wesley, Youth Services Librarian Kinsey Hisle and Young Adult Services Librarian B Smith. On Christmas Eve, Santa will be back to read The Night Before Christmas.
“We wanted to do a Christmas Story Week before Christmas, the same way we did a Scary Story Week before Halloween in October,” Hisle said. “There are so many great holiday stories and these kind of themed reading weeks are the perfect way to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit while developing early literacy skills. The holidays this fall and winter are different from what we are all used to, so we hope this special Story Week helps create a fun new tradition to share around the holidays.
All of the holiday storytime videos will be posted on the Boyle County Public Library’s children’s programming Facebook page and the library’s YouTube channel. The videos will only be available until the end of December.
Additional vacation activities at the library include a recipe exchange forum, letters to Santa, ornamental decorations, and an outdoor scavenger hunt. Information on these and all upcoming events is available online at BoylePubLib.org.
“Our usual Christmas program traditions may have changed, but we have found new and safe ways for families to continue to decorate ornaments for our tree, write a letter to Santa Claus and get a photo of free vacation that excites us, ”Hisle said. “Seeing families walking into the building dressed in their best holiday outfits to take a photo with our backdrops brings great joy to the library staff as we love using our space and resources in new ways to help our community. . “
The library is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the building will be closed from December 24 to 26 for the Christmas holidays. Access to the library’s online collection is still available through BoylePubLib.org/emedia. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7 in the library parking lot. Chat with library staff during opening hours by using the live chat service on the library’s website or by texting (859) -545-8398.
