“Innovating for the future is a major goal,” said PPL Electric Utilities President Stephane Raymond. “Whether it’s finding new ways to increase organizational safety, boosting efficiency through supply chain management, or launching a new technology. These awards show how our continued efforts translate with benefits for our employees and customers.”
Safety is a core value for PPL Electric. And despite having two of the safest years in its history in 2017 and 2018, the company continued to seek ways to increase overall security within the organization. This led to the development of a safety-focused leadership training program that provides mentorship skills and a forum to discuss all aspects of safety incidents, whether or not they result in injury.
After reviewing safety trends, PPL Electric found that engaged leaders help reduce safety incidents by passing on their knowledge to junior employees and new hires. Along with the introduction of this new security leadership program, the company created a process for discussing security incidents and launched quarterly learning sessions that covered key topics.
PPL Electric was also honored for a recent innovation in supply chain management. PPL Electric’s supply chain organization took over storage and delivery of utility steel structures in 2020. This move reduced costs by 40% and resulted in increased reliability and service for customers.
Prior to supporting these processes, the company relied on a third-party vendor to store and deliver these structures. The recent change has become a boon to PPL Electric and its customers, as steel structures are now stored within PPL Electric’s service territory and are available for faster delivery should an immediate need arise, improving customer service. .
